My Love Hate Hair Journey

I’m not sure exactly why I wanted a relaxer but got my first creamy cack treatment around the age of 11 when I started secondary school. Before this, every other week my mum would do the usual process of shampooing and conditioning my hair, blow drying it and then greasing my scalp before plaiting my hair up. My mum didn’t want me to get a relaxer and tried to steer me away from the idea by telling me I didn’t need one but in the end she gave in as I was getting older and beginning to do my hair myself.
About two years later my hair started breaking and my edges began to thin from the daily slicking up and use of hair gel. (many gels contains alcohol which dry the hair out). At this point I started to research how to grow back edges and black hair fast through natural hair blogs on Google and natural hair guru’s on YouTube. Here I learnt a lot about correctly caring for afro/curly hair and I came across the natural hair movement inspiring me to grow out my relaxer although I still texturized my hair from time to time (A texturizer is a weak relaxer and so loosens a curl pattern instead of completely straightening the hair shaft).
Fast-forward another two years, as I wore my hair straightened a lot of the time and began to neglect my natural hair routine, I ended up with heat damage which I then covered up with another relaxer to even out the many different textures on my head.  About a year on and I am now planning to go completely natural , knowing more than I did before. I would like to use my blog to help those who want to go natural, or are already caring for natural or relaxed hair but would like to learn some new things.
