Hey everyone, sorry I haven’t posted in a while, I’ve been caught up with work and college work but I’m back with a review on my latest protective style.
What are protective styles?
Protective styles are hair styles where your hair is tucked away and given a rest from the stress of daily brushing, combing, styling, being dried out by the atmosphere and general manipulation which can all contribute to dryness, split ends and hair breakage.
How can protective styling help hair growth?
Protective styling helps you to grow your hair by helping you to retain length as your hair is being given a rest from stress and so avoiding breakage. A lot of people talk about how their hair used to be long when they were younger and I realised that when we were children our hair was usually braided up all the time (in a protective style) for practical reasons. This means that our hair wasn’t being manipulated everyday and so avoiding stress helping us to retain length.
What are protective styles?
Protective styles are any style where your real hair isn’t being manipulated everyday. This includes braids, twists, cornrows, weaves and my current one (photographed) wigs.
About my current protective style – A lace front wig
I decided to purchase a lace front wig as I felt like a change but didn’t want anything permanent such as a weave which is sewn down to my head. I also opted for a wig over weave or braids/twists as I like to be able to cleanse my scalp and moisturise my hair properly which I can do with a wig as I can easily take it off and put it back on whenever I want. Underneath my wig, my real hair is in 8 doodoo plaits and pulled into a low ponytail. my hairline is cornrowed down the perimeter of my face so that I have the option of having it out for a more natural look (like in the picture above).
P.S- It’s important to keep your hair moisturised while protective styling so that your hair is healthy when the style is taken down.
I’ve posted my first video on youtube which is a review of this lacefront wig. I show what the hair looked like straight out of the box, how I achieved the look pictured above, what products I used and share some details on the hair including where I got it from.
